Imagine spending Halloween in a haunted bookshop! In book five of The Secondhand Bookworm series of novels set in an English bookshop, the staff and customers of the three story building are thrown into the thick of Halloween as Nora fills the window with horror books, IT moves into the shop, the ceiling is draped with cobwebs, the ghost of a trapped boy down a well under the flagstones by the door can be heard crying, the Duke of Sussex throws a Halloween Ball and Nora and Georgina go out on calls to a haunted barn filled with coffins and a house at the bottom of a cemetery filled with Weeping Angels. Halloween Reading 2018 - Halloween at The Secondhand Bookworm. Imagine spending a week in a haunted bookshop.

Image
Imagine spending a week in a haunted bookshop! Nora Jolly runs The Secondhand Bookworm and it's Shriek-Week in Castletown. Last week I finished my fifth novel in The Secondhand Bookworm series which takes place in the week leading up to Halloween! It's a great read and stands alone as the perfect Halloween-themed story, or is best read after 'Summer at The Secondhand Bookworm' (book 4 in the series). It's great to be adding to the series and Halloween at The Secondhand Bookworm now makes five. There are lots of laughs and plenty of bizarre and spooky happenings in the novel as Castletown puts on Shriek-Week. There are horror movies showing in the old town hall, a ghost trail through the town jail and dungeon, the Duke's Halloween Costume Ball, Slimy Saturday stalls and events (including the Creepy Critters), two zombie apocalyptic walks, The Woman in Black, a terrifying Halloween Waxwork Marquee, stocks and a pillory in the square, ravens, rooks, haunte...

It's not too late for some summer reading!

It's not too late for some summer reading! In fact, any time of the year is perfect to lose yourself in a summer read. 'Summer at The Secondhand Bookworm' can be enjoyed as a stand alone novel, set in an English used and antiquarian bookshop, but it is more fun as part of the bookshop series. BOOK FOUR OF THE SECONDHAND BOOKWORM SERIES AND IT’S SUMMER AT THE BOOKSHOP!   “It’s summer in Castletown and festival week has begun. Nora Jolly spends her week chasing ice-cream eaters out of the secondhand bookworm, foiling a bookshop robbery, visiting the new Duke’s library, watching the tuk-tuk drive tourists up to the carpet of flowers, taking a trip to Shakespeare on the hill and a wine-tasting ABBA concert, all the while dealing with regular bookshop customers such as Spencer and his alien sightings, Crossword-Lady, Miss Raven and a new gentleman friend as well as an invasion of Moomins on stilts, flying monkeys and an enormous moustache!” IT’S ANOTHER WE...

Classic silent horror movies for book 5 - Halloween at The Secondhand Bookworm - writing progress

Image
I have been enjoying writing the first five chapters of my fifth novel in my bookshop series which is titled 'Halloween at The Secondhand Bookworm'. In chapter four, at the end of the day, my main character Nora Jolly, who runs the secondhand bookshop, sets off for an evening of silent, black and white horror movies being shown in the old town hall. So I spent the afternoon this Saturday past watching a few silent, black and white horror movies on Youtube to bring into the story. Like me, Nora isn't too keen on scary movies. This novel is set during Shriek-Week in Castletown (my fictional town) and the council have gone all out with spooky festivities, including fixing up Red Plaques outside shops and houses where curious or macabre things have occurred. Naturally, Nora is horrified to learn the legend of the boy down the covered well beneath the flagstones by the front door of the shop. There are plenty of laughs and hilarious scenarios as Nora and Cara decora...

Two more titles in the series - The Secondhand Bookworm, cover designing, novels: Book Club and Black Friday

Image
After completing my latest novel release 'Summer at The Secondhand Bookworm', I have spent a couple of days playing around with cover designs for two more titles in the series. I had already planned to write 'Valentine's Day at The Secondhand Bookworm' as book six, after 'Halloween at The Secondhand Bookworm' but I am hoping to be able to complete 'Book Club at The Secondhand Bookworm' and 'Black Friday at The Secondhand Bookworm' before it. So 'Valentine's Day' will be number eight. My sister says that I should keep writing and having as many as I like in the series. She is a fan of 'Agatha Raisin' by M.C. Beaton who is now up to 28 in her series! While I don't even contemplate comparing myself to a successful author, I write for fun, I would enjoy adding more to my series set in a secondhand and antiquarian bookshop, after all, I have ten years of memories and experiences, plus a good imagination. I have already pa...

Summer at The Secondhand Bookworm - The Castletown Tuk-Tuk, kindle novel, fiction, series

Image
The Castletown Tuk-Tuk was inspired upon a visit in May to Arundel where the little Tuk-Tuk was parked ready to give tours about the town. I love to include eccentric and humorous things in my series of novels and the Tuk-Tuk was a must! The Tuk-Tuk in Arundel Castletown is my fictional setting for my series of novels set in a secondhand and antiquarian bookshop. The novels are based upon my ten years experience working in and managing a secondhand bookshop in Arundel. I started the series in 2008 for fun, writing two novels for my book colleagues which were a great success. A couple of years ago I decided to rewrite the first volumes and continue with the planned series so as to make them available on Amazon Kindle. So far I have four in the series and am currently working on book five. The Tuk-Tuk first appears in 'Summer at The Secondhand Bookworm', book four in my series of novels, but I will include it in more. I am especially looking forward to including it in...
